Introduction to SQL

Audience: Programmers, project managers, systems analysts, software engineers, database programmers, database end-users, systems architects and individuals who will be querying a Database System.

Duration: 1 or 2 Days

Course Summary:

This course is designed to introduce students to SQL using practical examples whether they be programmers or end-users.

Course Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

o Understand the concepts of databases and SQL.

o Write SQL queries using the SELECT and FROM statements.

o Calculate data using aggregate functions, column aliases, and mathematical operators.

o Use the WHERE clause to select specific rows.

o Use the LIKE keyword, wildcards, logical operators, and NULLs.

o Use clauses that group data.

o Create multi-table queries by joining tables.

o Use other SQL front-end applications.

Class Format: Lecture/Lab

Prerequisites: Knowledge of database structures and terminology.


Basic training takes 5 weeks. Employee is working with experienced workers on Paradox, FxPro and Access MS databases 8 to 9 weeks after that. Upon finishing she or he start to work independent under close supervision of the project leader. Usually after 5 months new employee is able to work on his own.
