Introduction to Visual Basic

Audience: Experienced applications and system programmers who have a working knowledge of a programming language and would like to enhance their skills in developing Windows-based applications using Visual Basic.

Duration: 3 or 5 day session

Course Abstract:

This course uses lecture and lab to cover:

o Introduction to the Visual Basic Environment.

o Creating a Basic Application.

o Statement types; Operators, Controls, Coding, Database Capabilities.

o Attaching code.

o Command Processing.

o Drawing graphical items.

o Using controls.

o Dialog Boxes.

o MDI, DDE, and OLE.

Course Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

o Develop user interfaces.

o Utilize the features of Visual Basic to build Windows-based application programs.

o Design and implement a complete Windows-based application.

o Manage and debug projects.

Prerequisites:

Some programming experience with a structured language, and experience as a Windows user.


Advanced Visual Basic

Audience: Experienced applications and system programmers who have a working knowledge of an application programming language introductory Visual Basic programming skills, and who would like to create advanced event driven graphical programs.

Duration: 3 days

Course Abstract:

This course uses lecture and lab to cover:

o Showing and Hiding controls.

o Adding pictures, bitmaps and icons.

o Advanced graphics and controls.

o Handling multiple forms and multiple files.

o Using the Clipboard.

o Using DDE, and OLE.

o Interacting with the mouse.

o Timers.

o Using custom controls.

o Using drag and drop.

o Error Handling and Debugging applications.

o Calling DLLs.

Course Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

o Understand advanced Windows application design concepts.

o Utilize the advanced features of Visual Basic to build Windows-based programs.

o Design and implement a complete Windows-based application using advanced Visual Basic concepts.

Course Topics:

o Brief review of Visual Basic.

o Multiple Form Applications.

o Advanced Control and Graphics Concepts.

o Database Access.

o Handling Files.

Class Format: Lecture/Lab

Prerequisites:

Some programming experience with a structured language, and experience as a Windows user.

Basic training takes 5 months. Employee is working with experienced workers 8 to 9 weeks. After that she or he start to work independent under close supervision of the project leader. Usually after 5 months new employee is able to work on his own.
